The fief of the lords of Bag\u00e9<\/h2><\/div>\n\n

The village of B\u00e2g\u00e9-le-Ch\u00e2tel has kept its circular location imposed by the surrounding wall erected in the fourteenth century. This is still evidenced by a few towers of the old ramparts and the castle of the Lords of Bag\u00e9 <\/strong>(private property) which can be seen by taking the rampart walk. <\/p>\n\n

The lords of Bag\u00e9 extended their possessions of the Seille to the gates of Lyon and made B\u00e2g\u00e9-le-Ch\u00e2tel the first political capital of Bresse. In the eleventh century, they had the monks of Tournus build the church of Saint-Andr\u00e9-de-B\u00e2g\u00e9<\/strong>, the most beautiful Romanesque building in the department of Ain. <\/p>\n\n
