Conference on Freemasonry
Freemasonry in the Ain and the Pont-de-Vaux lodges (1750-2026). Hosted by Christian Buiron, author of books, studies and historical research.
The first known Masonic lodge in the Ain département appeared in Pont-de-Vaux around 1730, making it a very early center of Freemasonry in the province. Recent work by Christian Buiron, author of a reference work on Freemasonry in the Ain region, underlines this long history and the continuity of lodges in Pont-de-Vaux throughout the department's history.
This lodge, located in a building in the town center, was active for several decades in the 18th and 19th centuries, and is presented as one of the most influential lodges in the region, and even as one of the first lodges in France outside the major centers.
